McLaren has introduced the 540C model at Auto Shanghai 2015.
The great baby has arrived called McLaren 540C is the company’s “most attainable” model ever with a starting price at home in United Kingdom of £126,000.
Unlike the 625C which is an Asia-only model, the McLaren 540C will be sell all over the world and it’s already available for people to order, with deliveries in early 2016.
The new model is part of McLaren’s Sports Series family and shares the same twin-turbo V8 3.8-liter engine with the other models.
In this application, it has been detuned to 540 PS (397 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque sent to the wheels through a 7-speed SSG (seamless shift gearbox).
It needs 3.5 seconds until 62 mph (100 km/h) which makes it 0.3s slower than the other Sports Series model, the 570S. The 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) run takes 10.5 seconds so it needs an extra second compared to its more powerful sibling. Top speed stands at 199 mph (320 km/h), representing a 5 mph (8 km/h) decrease.
Upon first glance it looks virtually the same as the 570S but McLaren says the McLaren 540C has a “subtly revised aerodynamic package” and different 19-inch front & 20-inch rear wheels wrapped around in Pirelli P Zero tires developed specifically for the Sports Series models.
Featuring body panels wrapped around carbon-fiber chassis, the 540C weighs just 1,311 kg. That’s just 2kg lighter than the 570S, but 150 kg than the Audi R8. 540c will be next lightest sportscar in the world.
